Last night was the last day of the IASSIST conference, and a nice dinner was held at the Roxburghe Hotel in Charlotte Square. We started out with wine in the garden and moved onto a five course dinner with sliced salmon with peppercorns and Haggis stuffed chicken. It was worth attending the conference just for this feast! After dinner we did some Ceilidh dancing to the music of a local band, and later we were given a foot pounding performance by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers! I was impressed that they had the nerve to dance on the tables while wearing kilts. I loved their exciting and modern interpretation of both Scottish classics and modern rock.
When the dinner was done, we took a charter bus back to the Holyrood for the “Turkey Action Group” meeting. This turned out to be the strangest part of the conference. Starting around midnight, we went to a room stocked full of wine and beer. The goal of the evening was to get as drunk as possible and tell sick and dirty jokes. I never knew data librarians could be such a riot, Wendy was a rock star!
Today is our last day in Edinburgh for about two weeks. We are going to catch a RyanAir jet over to Ireland tomorrow, and I am excited.
