I stopped at my Grandparents house in Wild Rose on my way north from the Dells. They were having a large mothers day lunch for the family. I ate some tasty home cooking, and drove back to Stevens Point. I stopped in at UWSP and watched Patricia’s choir concert before we headed to the theatre. I also picked up her friend Rachel who came along too! With two girls and two bottles of wine in the car, we headed out for Madison.
Mel Brooks’ new musical, The Producers, was playing at the overture center. I was excited to see the show, as it had won twelve Tony awards, the most ever! The show begins with two producers who are desperately trying to create a theatrical flop. If they succeed to fail, they can pocket their “investor” (Old Ladies) money. They settle on a script from a Nazi called “Springtime for Hitler” and hire a flamboyantly gay director. The climax of “Springtime” includes fake Nazi tanks and lavishly dressed showgirls. The show was hilarious; I never knew Hitler could be so funny!
