Dave Grohl has been a long time rock hero of mine. Although he is most known for being one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, I am most impressed by his front man singing and guitar anthems from the Foo Fighters. He has also captivated me with his renditions of Baby Hold On and Tiny Dancer. I was ecstatic to learn that he would be performing in Madison along with Bruce Springsteen! A show I couldn’t miss.
The free concert took place on the crossroads of Basset and Washington, with the beautiful state capital as a backdrop for over 100,000 screaming fans. Dave performed a wonderful acoustic set with version of Learn to Fly, Times Like These, and My Hero. I wish I was Dave Grohl. Sadly Dave had to leave the stage to make room for Bruce Springsteen who played The Promised Land and No Repeat, No Surrender. It was a great concert!
After the show, I went to the UW-Madison Sociology Dept. to give a talk to Robert Hauser and the folks at WLS. I talked about data naming and the semantic web, and worked in some LSID propaganda as well. I think they could really benefit from a global naming scheme to allow better cross-referencing of their data and publications.
Look what happened, I happen to be in Madison on Halloween weekend, how did that happen again? Friday night Jeremy, Riley, and I dressed up as Paper, Rock, and Scissors! We went to a party with the Madison waterski team for the beginning of the evening, then walked State St. playing RPS with everyone. I won a surprising amount of the time for being dressed like a rock, and always throwing rock. Saturday was the party at Jeremy’s house, and we revived our roles as Jake and Elwood blues for the 4th year in a row. Steve got sick, Raygor cleaned, and Ben dressed up as Denim Dan, chairman, vice president, and CEO of Levi Strauss.
